Gaining steam
I remember it like it was yesterday...mostly because it was yesterday. It was advisory and we had just received word that there was going to be a competition. Every junior advisory would have to make a gingerbread train! The winner would be decided by creativity, look, edibility, etc. There was a lot of energy when we heard news of this trial, and it wasn't the kind that people would have expected... there was a lot of moaning, complaining, and a fair number of expletives. Being a fairly spirited guy and kinda being fed up of not doing anything holiday related in 3 years I tried to step up as a leader. My initial attempts to stir their spirit by shooting out ideas where shot down themselves. After a painstaking 5 minutes though people gained interest and started to contribute. After 20 minutes we had an awesome idea for the clash of holiday sweets that would be taking place (I'm no gonna lie it's a sure fire winner!!!). I learned that by listening, giving input, and most of all trying anyone can be a leader

I remember this too Henri! You are a awesome leader in advisory, you always bring up cool, new ideas. We definitiely depend on your leadership. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteI would also like to add that you show qualities of courage and desire. Like Will Hall, you shared your ideas with your classmates not knowing whether they would approve or not which takes courage. And you have a deep desire to win the gingerbread train competition and it inspires others in your advisory to win as well.
ReplyDeleteHenri,
ReplyDeleteThis is a good entry because it is written with an authentic voice. A good introduction to connect the reader to the fact that it was a personal best leadership post would have been helpful. Too, an articulation of some of the traits you needed to demonstrate (confidence; enthusiasm; courage) would have been helpful.
You are short a couple of posts at this point, so stay on top of those. Remember how essential your solid in class contributions are; we need your continued commitment to asking good questions and sharing thoughtful insights.
